Why I love Walt Disney World

At the great old age of 28 (I just found my first gray hair, don’t come for me) I am still going to Disney. Now, am I too old for Disney? Some people might think so, but I don’t care to be quite honest. I find that Disney is a place everyone can enjoy and I am not talking about just going to the parks. Shopping, spa amenities, beautifully designed pools, golf courses, the list goes on and on. While all these activities - parks included - are some of the reasons why I love going to Disney, there’s actually a bigger reason why I love going to Disney year after year.

A little back story,

You may not know this about me yet, but I’m proud to share that I am a Child of Deaf Adults or a CODA (no I haven’t seen the show, and yes it’s on my list to watch) . Both of my parents are Deaf but my siblings and I are all hearing so we use American Sign Language to communicate. Now, we were very fortunate to grow up during a time where everyday new technology was appearing in our lives but it wasn’t always something that our parents really thrive with like they do today where devices and tools a better than ever. We didn’t go to the movies, our parents never took us to concerts, we never even talked on the phone. It was difficult to find activities as young kids that our parents could enjoy doing and I will forever appreciate the sacrifices they made to ensure we were happy; my dad went to every chorus concert I had from 3rd grade until I went to high school and joined band (don’t worry, I did color guard so he could watch me and actually enjoy attending my extra curricular at school).

One thing we did do together that we all enjoyed? We went to Disney.

Disney was and is so much fun for all of us. It’s a place that you don’t have to be able to listen to the music or the sounds happening on the rides to to enjoy it. The visuals, the colors, the SMELLS even make it a place that we love to go time and time again. I have never felt worried when going to Disney about what my parents are going to be able to do or enjoy because there is no limits for what they can enjoy.

You have thrill rides like Tron or Galaxy Edge that give you that sense of apprehension, nerves, and overwhelming excitement. There’s slower rides like the People Mover or even Na’vi River Journey where you get the most amazing visuals and views to enjoy without needing to hear anything honestly to be able to enjoy it.

So you see, people are going to judge you for whatever reason they come up with for liking Disney. I say who cares, because you may never know truly why they enjoy going.

But I am happy to have shared mine!
